February 10, 2012: Big Red Junior High Boy's Basketball = CITY CHAMPS!

Congrats to the Junior High Boy's Basketball team for defeating CCPA in the 2011/2012 city championship game at Shroder. The BIG RED family is proud of all the hard work and dedication these young men put in to win this championship. Way to go and GO BIG RED!

January 30, 2012: Hughes Senior to Attend CCU for Volleyball!

Congrats to Tyreeshia "TY" Barber for signing her scholarship to play volleyball at Cincinnati Christian University next year! We wish you the best of luck on your college journey and GO BIG RED!

January 27, 2012: Hughes to Host PTSA Night at the Game!

Attention all BIG RED parents and alumni! On February 17, 2012 the Hughes Big Red Basketball team will host the Tigers of Withrow. Game tips at 7:30pm and we would LOVE to see you all there! Come out and learn about the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) and support the team at the same time. Tickets are $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for students at the door. Hope to see you there and GO BIG RED!

January 17, 2012 - Head Coach Burke Hits Her 400th Career Win!


Congrats to Head Girl's Basketball Coach Anita Burke for reaching her 400th career win in a 73-24 victory over Woodward High School. Here are some of Coach Burke's accomplishments so far:

- Career Basketball Coaching Record 399-172 in 26 years of coaching
- Inducted into the Greater Cincinnati Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame 1992
- 12 time league champs at Hughes, 1 at Walnut, 3 at CAPE = total of 16 league titles
- 9 time Coach of the Year at Hughes, 1 at Walnut = 10 time League Coach of the Year
- Players Journal 1997 Coach of the Year, Greater Cincinnati 1997 Coach of the Year
- 2 District Titles at CAPE 1987, 1990
- 1997 City Poll Champs
- Coached multiple D1 and D2 scholarship athletes and CPS’ only WNBA player, Courtney Coleman
(Schools like Rutgers, Ohio State, Dayton, SEMO, Morehead St., Kentucky St.)
- Currently 35th all time in OHSAA history in career basketball coaching wins
- Winner of the “Donna de Verona Spirit of Sports Award” for outstanding sportsmanship, integrity, and dedication
- Also 6 time Coach of the Year in Volleyball with 5 League Titles
